It is in the east-central part of the state, about 250 miles east of Reno.

Ely’s greatest attraction for visitors or residents may not be in town at all, but in the new Great Basin National Park that is 60 miles to the south and east.
Additional outdoor recreational opportunities include hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, exploring, golf and cross-country skiing.
Cave Lake State Park, the above center picture, is 14 miles from the center of town.
Ely is 227 driving miles from Salt Lake City, Utah and 300 miles from Reno, Nevada.
